Beard transplant is a procedure that consists of harvesting hair from the back and laterals of the scalp and transplanting it to the beard area.
A Beard Transplant may be suitable for those experiencing a lack of facial hair growth caused by genetics or scarring. It’s also for those who simply want to have more density in certain areas of their beard.
It’s necessary to remember that the hair on the face is thicker than the one on the scalp, and the follicles usually have one or two hairs, rarely more.
At Insparya, as with Hair Transplants, the procedure we use for Beard Transplants is the Insparya Method, harvesting the Follicular units of 1 and 2 hairs, with our BotHair Ultra Plus Insparya. Depending on the specific recipient area (this may be the beard, mustache, cheeks, sideburns, or any combination of these), a certain number of follicular units is required. This amount depends on the patient’s face and morphology, though the procedure is usually performed in a single session.
Initially the donor area is shaved to facilitate the precise extraction of follicular units. Subsequently, local anaesthesia is administered to ensure a completely painless procedure. The follicular units are then delicately extracted, aspirated and stored one by one, with careful attention to detail, in a single step, thanks to the use of our exclusive BotHair UltraPlus Insparya.
After this, the units are implanted one by one in the desired area. An incision of no more than 1 mm is carefully made, using our special BotHair Ultra Plus Insparya multi-implanter, in the recipient area, always considering the direction of the beard and mustache hair. This is essential to guarantee a natural result.
In a Beard Transplant, recovery is fast, which means patients can lead a normal life following the procedure.
During the first few days, you have to hydrate the recipient area and apply healing cream on the recipient area. It is also important to avoid rubbing the beard area, especially with clothes or hands not to damage the implanted follicles and avoid long sun exposure during the first days.
Also, as with Hair Transplant, it is important not to scratch the area or tear off any scabs that appear during those first few days.
It’s also important to know that before the first shave, the area and follicular units must have fully adapted. That’s why it is important not to shave until indicated by the specialist.
A Beard Transplant provides a full beard for a lifetime. It’s important to remember that the patient’s follicular units are moved from their own scalp, and therefore there is no risk of rejection.
On average, approximately three to four months following the Beard transplant procedure, the grafted follicles begin to show the hair produced by them. At six months, the beard’s density is visually evident, and at twelve months, the results are considered final.
